Caution by Greg Santos

This is a poem.
Simple and to the point.
With language that
everyone can understand.
My intentions are as clear as a fish bowl:
you will grasp its meanings on the first reading.
Decoder rings and X-Ray Specs
are not required.
There are no difficult
metaphors or obscure references.
No theories to murk up the brain.
It is not experimental in any way.
It is a lone wolf under the full moon.
Its purpose in life is to be totally accessible.
Neither is this poem ironic.
Seriously. It is 100% earnest.
It cannot tell a lie.
It wants to friend you.
It seeks to take hold of your heart
in a heart-to-heart bear hug.
It is unbridled and wild.
It is a totally free range poem.
Poetry like this brings the greatest happiness.
It is poetry for the people.
It is dangerous like a bomb.

My sorry attempt at an homage to master Bernstein. Lurv his reading! Have you read Silliman’s interpretation of “Thank You for Saying Thank You”? http://epc.buffalo.edu/authors/bernstein/reviews/silliman2.html
It’s way rad.
